The Stabyhoun club Stabyhounkerho was founded on February 5, 2006 in Espoo. The club’s official name is Suomen Stabyhounkerho – Stabyhoun Club of Finland ry. The breed association of the Stabyhoun breed is Saksanseisojakerho ry (German Pointer Club). Anyone interested in the Stabyhoun breed can join our club. Stabyhounkerho publishes the STABY-HAU magazine 2-3 times a year.
The first Stabyhouns were brought to Finland in 1991. The dogs were brought by Birgitta Kajander from Ikaalinen (Finland) who used to have a kennel called Nordwart. She had been thinking about starting to import a new breed to Finland. She liked the breed’s appearance and character. She managed to import the first two dogs from the Netherlands with help from her Dutch friends. Since these first arrivals, Stabyhouns have been imported every year from the Netherlands. By 1996, altogether 10 Stabyhouns had been imported to Finland.
Seven years later, Kennel Hazebad imported a male Stabyhoun from Belgium. It took 11 years to get the next Stabyhoun from the Netherlands, but finally in 2007 a female Stabyhoun arrived in Kennel Hazebad.
The first Stabyhoun litter was born in Kennel Nordwart in 1997 and the next litter was born in 1998. After 2000, more breeders emerged and approximately 1-4 litters are born every year.
By December 15, 2013, 373 Stabyhouns have been registered in Finland.
The Stabyhoun Club of Finland organizes meetings, training and discussion events, courses and different kinds of activities for its members. The club acts as an intermediary between the breed association and Stabyhoun owners in issues concerning the Stabyhoun breed.
